N.B: What is Oral Placement Therapy
Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) is a technique that uses a combination of tactile and proprioceptive stimulation to the mouth to improve speech clarity. Oral placement therapy is used as part of a comprehensive speech program.
OPT trains physical placement (dissociation, grading, and direction of movement) of the tongue, lip and jaw used in the targeted speech production. OPT is also used to improve stability and muscle memory needed for speech clarity. This is beneficial for children who cannot copy speech sounds using traditional auditory or visual input.
